Girl Scout Workshop

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) will host a workshop for Girl Scout Juniors.

The Local Lore workshop invites Girl Scout Juniors to discover Kentucky’s capital city and learn how Frankfort became the city it is today by exploring maps and photographs from the KHS collection.

This is the ninth Girl Scout workshop KHS has hosted, with more to come in the fall of 2011. KHS has partnered this year with both Girl Scouts of the Wilderness Road Council and Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana.

“Our workshops give Girl Scouts the opportunity to explore the KHS history campus and new ideas and time periods,” said Erica Harvey, KHS coordinator of children and family programs. “Then the girls can participate in hands-on activities to reinforce what they’ve learned and have fun in the process. The workshops are a fun way for the girls to bond with their troops and meet other Girl Scouts.”

May’s workshop is open to all Girl Scout Juniors. Registration fee includes craft supplies, snack, a Girl Scout Try-It Badge, a KHS Badge and admission to the KHS history campus. Register by May 17 by contacting the Girl Scouts of the Wilderness Road at tapquestions@gswrc.org or call.

! Below are the dates and closest towns where the walk is scheduled to stop each night.
Dates and Evening Stops Planned
•Feb 3: Ivyton
•Feb 4: Close to Elsie
•Feb 5: Helechawa
•Feb 6: Campton
•Feb 7: Slade
•Feb 8: Stanton
•Feb 9: Winchester
•Feb 10: Winchester

NOTE: You can still support this effort even if you are unable to walk. For example, Footprints for Peace appreciates people who organize pot luck dinners and events in any of the locations (above) where the walkers can meet with the community. They are also appreciative of overnight accommodations. If you go to the website www.footprintsforpeace.org you’ll find a map of the actual route. Please note that some of the listed towns are not precisely on the route; you may find you are closer than the listed town or city, which might make your assistance less burdensome.

Please contact Footprints for Peace if you can support this effort in any way:
